Hi there. My name’s Erica Morse and I’m currently a junior studying Graphic Design at RISD, the Rhode Island School of Design.
Labels elude me. I’ve gone through stages in which I thought of myself as a graphic designer, a web developer and an interaction designer, before I realized that these labels were more limiting than they were empowering.
Regardless of the medium, I’m a problem solver at heart. I subscribe to the belief that people aren’t consciously aware of their needs. They fault themselves if they can’t figure out a piece of technology. And they hardly question long wait times, at hospitals for instance, because they can’t imagine it any other way. I believe the designer’s role is to study human behavior and to design systems that meet their underlying needs.
I relish the opportunity to question the things we take for granted and to discover innovative solutions to improve people’s lives.
In the summer of 2010 I collaborated with Rachel Hallock and Micah Barrett to develop an online RISD newspaper, the All-Nighter. I am currently the editor-in-chief.
