In my Type II class we were asked to design book covers and to create the type in uncoventional ways. For Franz Werner’s photography book, Designing with Light, I created a small type sculpture and lit it to create dramatic shadwos. For Marion Bataille’s ABC3D, I experimented with 3D techniques so that when you view the book cover with 3D glasses the words pop off the surface. And finally for the Book as Art, a collection of art books, I carved words into a stack of paper.
It was a great opportunity to get off the computer and experiment with new techniques.
