The aim of these posters is to educate and persuade viewers about the danger of food additives.
For the first poster I took all of the ingredients in a hostess cupcake (there are over thirty) and researched the alternate uses of these ingredients. Some of the additives were used in cosmetics, others in cigarettes and one is even used in antifreeze. From a distance the poster presents an appetizing cupcake, but it loses its appeal upon further inspection when you’re close enough to read the type.
For the second poster I focused on aspartame, which has been shown to be a carcinogen, and which is frequently used as a sugar substitute in products such as diet coke. This posters shows an Erlenmeyer flask morphing into a coke can.
